On Thursday, November 14th, 2024, the Baldwin County Education Coalition hosted the inaugural Cocktails for a Cause event at Oak Hollow Farm in Fairhope, Alabama. The 125 guests enjoyed an evening of music, dancing, delicious food, and holiday cocktails—all benefiting Palm Project.
Thanks to the incredible generosity of the community, the event raised $15,000 to support the Palm Project initiative. “The event far exceeded our expectations,” said Terry Burkle, Executive Director for the Baldwin County Education Coalition. “These funds will assist us in providing much needed items to economically disadvantaged students through every public school’s care closet.”
Palm Project launched in 2022 as a county wide initiative that ensures every public-school care closet in Baldwin County is stocked with essential items, completely free of charge for both the school and its students. According to the 2023-2024 Annual Report, Palm Project distributed more than 18,000 items to 43 public schools in Baldwin County during the last school year.
“Palm Project is more than just a provision of necessary items; it’s a vital initiative aimed at alleviating the numerous stress factors that can impede a student’s ability to excel both inside and outside the classroom,” said Burkle. “By reducing the ongoing stress of living with less than one needs, we are enhancing a child’s readiness for school and fostering academic achievement.”
Funds raised will directly benefit the initiative, ensuring students have access to essential items that support their well-being. Palm Project is more than a resource for necessities; it’s a lifeline for students facing challenges that extend beyond the classroom.
The Coalition is thankful for all who attended, donated, and contributed to making Cocktails for a Cause a night to remember. The support is already paving the way for next year’s event, which promises to be even bigger and better!
